At least seven people were killed and one critically injured in two related shootings in a coastal community in northern California. The shootings took place at a mushroom farm and a trucking firm, and a suspect is now in custody.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office tweeted just before 5pm local time that a suspect was in custody, and it is believed the suspect worked for one of the businesses, being described as a “disgruntled worker” by Pine.
San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President Dave Pine confirmed that four people were killed at a mushroom farm and three at the trucking business on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a city about 48km (30 miles) south of San Francisco.
He complained there are too many guns on the streets as it was revealed a semi-automatic handgun was used in the shootings.
It is not immediately clear how the locations were connected, but officials have assured the community that there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time. This shooting comes less than 48 hours after a gunman killed 11 people at a Lunar New Year celebration at Monterey Park, Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Gov. Gavin Newsom said he heard about the shooting in Half Moon Bay while visiting victims of Monterey Park mass shooting.
At the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting when I get pulled away to be briefed about another shooting. This time in Half Moon Bay.
Tragedy upon tragedy.
