DC Metro Police Probe Deadly Scooter Accident

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorized scooter.

Preliminary investigation determined that on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a 16-year-old juvenile male and a 17-year-old juvenile male were operating a stolen Fly Wing 150cc scooter northbound in the 3800 block of South Capitol Street, Southwest. An unknown black vehicle was traveling southbound in the 3700 block of Martin Luther King, Jr, Avenue, Southeast, and turned left towards Halley Place, Southeast, colliding head on with the scooter. Both occupants of the scooter were ejected from the scooter and the unknown vehicle fled the scene. One of the juvenile males was pronounced dead on the scene and the other juvenile male was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 16-year-old Da’Ron Ross, of Southwest, DC.
