DC Metro Police Probe Transit Officer’s Shooting Incident

Agents from the Force Investigation Team of the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating a Metro Transit Police officer-involved shooting.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at approximately 10:29 p.m., members of the Metro Transit Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop when the driver tried to flee and struck a fence. The driver exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at a member of the Metro Transit Police Department. The officer subsequently discharged their issued patrol rifle at the suspect. The suspect fled on foot and was not located, and no injuries have been reported.

The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigation Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District of Columbia. The facts and evidence in the case will be independently reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office.
