Escapee Juvenile Inmate Faces New Charges

TAMPA, FL. (December 09, 2024)- On Sunday, December 08, 2024, Jahmir Moore (DOB: 03-12-2009) was arrested in Tampa after escaping from a juvenile detention center.

Moore is now charged with one felony count of Escape From a Juvenile Detention Facility in addition to his previous charges.

The preliminary investigation found that on December 08, 2024, at approximately 10:33am, Moore and other inmates were outside in the fenced recreational area. Upon returning inside the building, it was determined during the headcount Moore did not return inside.

The Tampa Police Department began an immediate search once notified that Moore was missing.

Around 9:15pm, Moore was arrested on the 100-block of West Keyes Avenue by Tampa Police with the assistance of the US Marshals Task Force.

Moore was initially arrested on December 4th, 2024, for charges in connection to the death of 14-year-old Jevario Buie. He was being held at the Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center in the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

Moore is back in the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. However, he was taken to another facility outside of Hillsborough County.

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice will conduct a separate internal investigation regarding the escape.

This remains an active criminal investigation by the Tampa Police Department.
