Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 9700 Liberty Road about 6:05 p.m. on Saturday (January 25).
The identity of the deceased male, 69, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Wu and Officer J. Chen reported:
A white tractor-trailer truck was traveling southbound in the 5500 block of North McCarty Road and made a complete left turn onto Liberty Road. The male (deceased) was driving a red Toyota Camry also southbound near the above address when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a construction sign post and then struck the rear of the trailer. The Toyota then bust into flames. The driver of the 18-wheeler stopped and remained at the scene.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Toyota deceased. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was determined not to be impaired, was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
