HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer L. Fenoglio reported:
The operator of a minibike was traveling westbound on Suez street and had just entered the intersection at Lockwood Drive when he was struck by a white GMC Acadia. The collision forced the minibike across an unprotected grass median and into northbound lanes of Lockwood. The GMC continued southbound on Lockwood, struck a tree in the median and came to a rest on its right side.
The operator of the minibike was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A front passenger of the Acadia was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Acadia remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released. The investigation is continuing.
