Fatal Crash Probe at 6001 Gulf Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 6001 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) at about 1:20 a.m. on Saturday (March 29).

The identity of the deceased female is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The second victim, a pedestrian, has been identified as Tayler Ross, 31.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer N. Guzman reported:

A female driver of a black Ford Focus was traveling southbound at the above address when she was struck from behind by a vehicle of unknown make and model. The Ford Focus became disabled across two lanes of traffic. The driver of the unknown vehicle did not stop and fled without stopping to provide assistance

A black Ford Explorer traveling southbound pulled over on to the shoulder and a female passenger exited to check on the persons in the Ford Focus. A male driver of a blue Mitsubishi Mirage traveling southbound swerved to avoid a collision, but struck the disabled Ford Focus and the female pedestrian.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the female driver of the Ford Focus and female pedestrian deceased. The driver of the Mitsubishi was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries
