Metro Rail Train Homicide: LAPD Investigation Underway

Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Bureau Homicide detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for the stabbing death of a man.

On December 12, 2023, around 3:45 p.m., Newton Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Cutting” near the 2400 block of South Flower Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Jalil Sosa Illera suffering from stab wounds.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Illera to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Investigation revealed that the suspect and Illera were involved in an altercation on an MTA train. During the altercation, the suspect stabbed Illera, leading to his death.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic or Filipino who stands 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds. The suspect had glasses and was wearing a black sweater with white lettering on the front, light blue jeans, and black shoes.
