MPD Arrests Suspect in Northeast Homicide

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in a fatal shooting in Northeast.

On Saturday, September 14, 2024, at approximately 5:08 a.m., officers responded for the report of a man down in the 2200 block of Adams Place, Northeast. Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene. After finding no signs consistent with life, the male was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 44-year-old Erik Mewborn of Northeast, DC.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located the suspect. Pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant 25-year-old Jeremiah Simms, of Capitol Heights, MD was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed.
