Murder at 4100 Preferred Place

45 PM, Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 4100 block of Preferred Place.

The preliminary investigation determined a licensed Security Guard, Michael Alexander, 33, was patrolling the hotel when he saw two men who did not belong on the property and asked them to leave. As Alexander followed the men walking out, he saw one of the men, Cameron Birdwell, 30, was carrying a handgun. Birdwell drew the gun and pointed it at Alexander. The two exchanged gunfire and Birdwell was shot. DFR arrived and transported Birdwell to a local hospital where he died.
No other injuries were reported.
The case will be referred to a Grand Jury.
The investigation is ongoing and documented under case number 118518-2024.
