Officer-Involved Shooting on Beltline Road, Dallas

45 pm, Dallas Police responded to a disturbance in the area of 5850 Beltline Road.

The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived they found a man had committed an aggravated assault family violence with a knife.

Officers located the suspect, along with a woman inside the tent in a wooded area. The suspect was holding a knife and officers talked with the suspect to get him to drop the weapon.

The preliminary investigation determined the woman got out of the tent, and officers used less lethal to get the suspect to comply with their orders, but the suspect moved toward the officers with the knife in hand and officers fired, hitting him.

He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and died at the hospital.

The woman was also taken to a local hospital for treatment – she was not seriously injured.

No officers were injured.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and Office of Community Police Oversight were notified and responded.

The investigation is ongoing and will be documented under case number 099549-2024.

Chief Garcia will hold a press conference on Monday to provide more information and body worn camera footage will be released.
