Suspect Arrested, Charged in April De Priest Shooting

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 7915 De Priest Street about 3:45 a.m. on April 29.

The suspect, Ortazuis Collins, 48, is charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the 230th State District Court. A booking photo of Collins is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Ronnie Hackett, 49.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective N. Sharp reported:

HPD officers responded to a shooting in the parking lot of a convenience store at the above address and found the victim, later identified as Mr. Hackett, suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department Department paramedics transported him to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation identified Collins as a suspect in this incident. On Thursday (November 14), officers with the Gulf Coast Task Force arrested Collins in Fulshear, Texas. He was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.
