Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 1251 Wilcrest Drive about 2:40 a.m. on January 19.
The suspect, Trenten Asberry, 20 is charged with murder, assault of peace officer and possession of marijuana in the 248th State District Court. A booking photo of Asberry is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Marquise Barnes, 29.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Miyako and Detective C. Bowling reported:
Officers were dispatched to a person found deceased call at the apartment complex at the above address and learned a passerby reported seeing a male lying underneath a vehicle in the parking lot. When paramedics arrived, they discovered the male was deceased and had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
At that time, there was no known suspect description or motive in the shooting.
Further investigation identified Asberry as the suspect in this case. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Asberry was charged for his role in this incident. A warrant was issued for his arrest. On February 14, HPD Westside Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team officers developed information on Asberry’s whereabouts. As officers attempted to take him into custody, Asberry struck an officer and discarded a backpack as he attempted to flee on foot. Officers located Asberry after a short foot pursuit and recovered a felony amount of narcotics. Asberry was then booked into the Harris County Jail.
