Suspect Charged After 11900 Oakmoor Parkway Incident

Charges have been filed against an armed suspect in an incident at 11900 Oakmoor Parkway about 9:15 p.m. on Friday (March 14).

The male suspect, 16, has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on an aggravated assault on a peace officer charge. Juvenile suspect identities and booking photos are not releasable.

One officer, K. Smith II, discharged his duty weapon in the incident. Officer Smith II, sworn in as an officer in August 2016, is assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division.

No one was injured in the incident.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives A. Henderson and J. Windham reported:

HPD officers located a stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop at an apartment complex near the above address. As officers attempted the traffic stop, multiple suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, one suspect pulled a weapon from his waistband and turned towards officers.

One officer, fearing for his safety and the safety of others, discharged his duty weapon. The suspect then dropped his weapon and surrendered. No one was injured.

The facts of the incident were presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and charges were filed against the juvenile.

Three other suspects who fled from the suspect’s vehicle were arrested and charged. Xavier Parker, 18, is charged with unlawful possession of prohibited weapon in the 177th State District Court and misdemeanor evading arrest in Harris County Criminal Court #7. Richard Thomas, 18, is charged with misdemeanor evading arrest in Harris County Criminal Court #7. Damarion Lewis, 17, is charged with misdemeanor evading arrest and criminal trespass in Harris County Criminal Court #7.
