A suspect accused in the fatal crash that occurred in the 700 block of North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 12:45 a.m. on Monday (March 24) has been charged.
The suspect, Michael Anthony Arguijo, 46, is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter in the 176th State District Court. A booking photo of Arguijo, who remains hospitalized, is not available at this time.
The identities of the deceased female, 33 and juvenile male, 9, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer C. Moralez reported:
The female, an adult male and two juvenile passengers were in a Mitsubishi Outlander traveling southbound on the freeway. A red Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling the wrong way northbound struck the Mitsubishi head-on. The impact caused the Outlander to go on its side and strike a blue Nissan Rogue, also traveling southbound on the freeway.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the female driver, the adult male and juvenile passengers in the Mitsubishi to an area hospital where the female and her son were pronounced deceased. The juvenile female, 10 and the adult male remain in critical condition.
The male driver of the Ford pickup truck, later identified as Arguijo, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition
The female driver of the Nissan and her adult male passenger were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Arguijo was subsequently charged for his role in the fatal crash.
