Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in a fatal crash that occurred at 12800 Hempstead Highway about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 22).
The suspect, Terrell Juan Twitty, 52, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 487th State District Court. A booking photo of Twitty is attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased male, 57, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. James and Officer C. Song reported:
The suspect was driving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on Hempstead Highway at a high rate of speed. The Jeep struck a white Ford F-150 that was pulling out of a parking lot and crossing the westbound lanes to go eastbound on Hempstead. Both vehicles were pushed into eastbound lanes.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The suspect, identified as Twitty, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He showed signs of intoxication. Officers consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s office and he was arrested and charged for his role in the crash.
