Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man in the 6000 block of South Freeway (South U.S. Highway 288) about 11:10 a.m. on Monday (Nov. 18).
The suspect, Gregory Elias Rodriguez, 55, is charged with murder, unlawful carry of a weapon with a felony conviction and possession of a controlled substance. All charges are filed in the 208th State District Court. A booking photo of Rodriguez is attached to this news release.
The identity of the victim, 58, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Elliott and D. Hobson reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the median of the freeway’s HOV lanes at the above address and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
According to witnesses, a male suspect was seen chasing the victim while shooting at him. Officers located a male matching the suspect’s description and as they attempted to detain him, he fled on foot. He was apprehended a short time later and booked into jail for charges unrelated to the shooting.
After further investigation and consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Rodriguez was subsequently charged for his role in this shooting on Wednesday (Nov. 20).
