Tampa Police responded to a single-vehicle traffic fatality that occurred on S. Dale Mabry Avenue just after midnight on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Investigators believe speed was a major contributing factor in the crash.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2021 Toyota Camry was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on the Selmon Expressway connector from the Gandy Bridge. When attempting to exit onto the ramp to S. Dale Mabry, the car struck the side wall. This caused the car to overturn and land in the southbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway, coming to rest on the east side of Gandy Blvd.
The driver, a black male in his early 20s who was the only occupant of the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
