Today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott K.H. Bessent met with Minister of Economy Luis Caputo of Argentina. Secretary Bessent affirmed the United States’ full support for President Milei’s bold economic reforms, and saluted Minister Caputo and his economic team for playing a vital role in their design and implementation. The Secretary conveyed that Argentina can accomplish a bright future for its people under economic policies that provide stability and growth for the country’s workers and dynamic private sector firms.
The Secretary commended Argentina for moving quickly to negotiate with the United States on a package of reciprocal trade measures, and he looked forward in the very near future to co-chairing with USTR the pending discussions with Argentina. The Secretary also congratulated the Minister on Argentina’s recent, successful negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, as well as the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank. Secretary Bessent emphasized the Trump Administration’s commitment to solidifying its position as Argentina’s partner of choice.
