Twitter suffered a major outage which left thousands of users around the world with tweeting issues, notifications, video and logging in to the service.
At the peak of the disruption, Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, showed over 10,000 affected users in the US.
“User reports indicate Twitter is having problems since 7:13 EST,” Downdetector said in a tweet.
Twitter’s status page stated that all systems were operational, though some users were unable to log in to their accounts on desktop or laptop computers, while the mobile app and notification feature were also affected. Some users took to Twitter to share updates and memes about the disruption, with the hashtag #TwitterDown trending on the platform.
CEO Elon Musk tweeted that he was still able to use the service.
The outage comes two months after Musk’s $44bn takeover of Twitter, which has been marked by chaos and controversy. In November, hundreds of Twitter employees, including key engineers responsible for day to day running o the systems, quit the company.
